Previously served as Research Assistant with the U.S. Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratories in Champaign, Illinois. Conducted research on approaches to rare plant conservation, including an autecological study on a rare plant at Fort Stewart, Georgia. Proficient in natural areas management techniques, land conservation and protection techniques, vegetation sampling and monitoring techniques, rare plant survey and identification techniques, prescribed fire application techniques, invasive exotic species management techniques, cave management techniques, GPS and GIS mapping techniques, trail design and construction techniques including best management practices, and recreation impacts assessment and management techniques. Serves as a technical advisor to the Cumberland Trail Conference, served on the state Planning Committee on Off-Highway Vehicles, member of the Ecological Society of America, member of the Southern Appalachian Botanical Society, member of the Natural Areas Association, member of the Southeast and Tennessee Exotic Pest Plant Councils, and member of the Tennessee Native Plant Society. Currently coordinates the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Federal Aid Grant Program for Federally Threatened and Endangered plant species, as well as, other grants from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service supporting recovery actions for other Federally Listed plant and animal species managed by the Division of Natural Heritage.
