TN-EPPC meeting held at Montgomery Bell State Park
6/10/04
In attendance: Pat Parr, Dan Brown, David Lincicome, Anni Self, Bob Parrish, Terri Hogan. Guests: Pat Wright (superintendent of Montgomery Bell State Park), Linn Ann Welch (State botanist), Ryan Forbess, Matt Goodall and Matt Powell (interns at Oak Ridge), Wynne Mitchel (NRCS)
Pat Parr called meeting to order.
Minutes approved as submitted.
Treasurers report approved as submitted.
Web site updates: Richard C. invites members to turn in more for him to post.
Pat Wright addressed the board:

proposed that TN-EPPC has conference or training at a state resort park and open it to state park staff; park rangers required to take classes annually; resort parks provide meeting space, restaurants, hotel space; facilities available at no cost if park submits request identifying the event as park-related.·
parks planting more native and controlling exotics; relationship with TN-EPPC would be very beneficial to both parties.·
Linn Ann Welch, money from Iris Fund being released to plant natives, remove exotics; park managers can contract directly for services; first must identify worst exotics and timing of treatment at all parks; looking for sole source vender for exotics control.Old Business
Dickson County Weed Workshop: Dan, finishing last details.
Membership brochures: David has them.
TDOT Wildflower list and herbarium labels: David emailed to all.
TNEPPC 10th Anniversary events:
West TN ASB meeting very successful; kudos from Dan Simberloff; speakers got 1 year TN-EPPC membership;
East TN Sept 3 workshop at Ijams Nature Center, forming task group.
T-shirt: Pat P. will send design to all soon; prices: $25-30 for layout, basic design and color $4-5, more complex (more colors) $7-8; price lowers as number ordered goes up; board selected off-white (un-dyed cotton) t-shirts with dark green printing; will order 50.
Article for Wildland Weeds: Nancy’s article nearly ready, includes insert.
TN Invasive plants poster: Jack, poster almost ready; Carrie, printing sizes 19 X 28" which allows us to print two at a time.
Postcards to members: Carrie sent them; suggestion to use t-shirt drawings for notecards.
Reprinting 4 page folio: Kris, USFWS looking for original, when found will reprint; Carrie will get pictures.
Facilitating state agencies working on invasives: Anni, Shawn Bible works for TDOT’s Wildflower Program, will be good contact for TN-EPPC (email: Shawn.A.Bible@state.tn.us); Pat P. will include Shawn on email list.
Standing Stone April 17: Carrie, David came to help; Shawn Hughes, park ranger, is interested in having us back; felt very welcomed.
SE-EPPC meeting: Carrie attended; met with Karen Brown, editor of Wildland Weeds; one problem was that attendees could only join FL-EPPC when registering.
Regulatory list: Anni, no progress.
New Business
July 7 and 8, TN Nursery and Landscaping Association in Chattanooga: Jack, will have an entire section devoted to invasives; Jack is speaking.
Jimmy Duncan, Congressman from East TN to Washington: Pat P. will prepare letter to help educate him about the problems of invasives.
Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association 2005
Annual Conference in Nashville: Bob, in Nov; section that discusses exotics; TN-EPPC could be involved; good way to get information to all across state using this email list.Ideas for an annual meeting 2005:
David, partner with TN Native Plant Society.
Pesticide workshops (IPC).
Pat P., have at state resort park; ask about special lodging rates; limitations on size; Fall Creek Falls or Montgomery Bell could handle to 200 people.
Carrie: who to target

Linn Ann, bringing in state park managers; not available end of Sept. or early Nov.; state has database of commissioned officers.o
Pat P., target land managers; maybe sponsor an activity or workshop rather than an annual meeting to follow up with state park contact.Bob, continue Dickson Co. model.
Annual meeting targeting: land managers, garden clubs, home owners, educators (Bob, could reach educators at TN Education Association, annual meeting Sept 24-26), TN Native Plant Society (Meeting Sept 17-18 at Bersheeba Springs).
Agenda from NC: AM three speakers; land managers roundtable at lunch.
Keep it one day; AM have some way for land managers to share information; PM field training.
Accessible city, Murfreesboro; Carrie and Terri will look for likely site.
Separate State Parks activity; summer 2005, during the growing season; ask Steve Manning to do workshop; Linn Ann will find out what is best time from state park management; we could also tag along on some other training (in-service visits to raise awareness).
Increasing membership: Linn Ann talking with biologists across state; we will get information to her so she can make biologists botanists aware of what we are doing.
