Board Meeting Minutes |
OLD BUSINESS
TN-EPPC membership brochures will be done today (11-1-02) and Brian will FedEx them out so they will be at the SAMAB meeting.
TN-EPPC Academy of Science article is now in print and we will send an email out to let everyone know that we have them. Contact Brian if you need more.
The poster looks great. Kudos to Nancy and Anni for getting it and to Jack, Carrie, and everyone else that provided input and technical support. Jack will keep it, contact him if you need it.
Webpage info needed. What do we want on it? Also be sure you get your profile to Richard.
The TN-EPPC Management Manual update is coming along. Possible completion by the end of December. The new species are: Sericea lespedeza, Coltsfoot (or Giant salvina), Chinese silvergrass crown vetch, hydrilla, English ivy, bamboo, Chinese tallow tree, Chinese yam, and water hyacinth.
NEW / NOW OLD BUSINESS
Agreement on council electronic approvals by majority response. If Pat receives 7 emails in support then that is considered a majority and she will proceed with whatever that task at hand might be.
We do have letterhead available and it can be emailed out to whomever might need it, contact Pat if you need it.
Letters have been sent to Bill Purcell (mayor of Nashville), Anne Vidaver (CSREES), Gabriela Chavarria in support of Pittman Center Weed Management Area Demonstration, and the letter sent by Brian on behalf of the SE-EPPC endorsing the St. Louis Declaration.
Kristen Allen has contacted us about getting her our minutes and other information to be posted on the SE-EPPC site. This is part of the SE-EPPC Webpage Scope of Services Agreement "The webpage will be maintained monthly for changes and updates; the webmaster will receive changes on the 3rd Friday of every month and have changes posted by the last Friday of every month. This schedule can change when the webmaster and others agree in advance (15th of the month) and determine when updates will be completed for that month."
Lisa Smith requested the information that Jack presented at the National EPPC meeting and turned it into a one page bio on TN-EPPC. Jack spoke briefly on the National EPPC and what others are doing (someone else is developing or has developed flash cards).
As for periodic email requests, respond if you have the information. If you feel someone else would be better for the job then pass it to that person.
Carrie stated that she has a list put together of TN-EPPC members email addresses. This is available to pass out information and to keep members updated. She lacks about 5-10 member addresses.
NEW BUSINESS
At the National EPPC meeting the St. Louis Invasive Plant Species Workshop was discussed. SE-EPPC has endorsed this. Jack spoke about this with some East Tennessee landscape association and had a lot of positive responses.
Flash cards are a hit. Jack has already used them in training sessions. Right now the cost is about $10 / 12 cards. Would TN-EPPC be willing to pay for 200 more sets? TVA is willing to help. Wildlife and Fisheries in Ashville will give Jack a figure in January (possibly a couple thousand). A motion was accepted that TN-EPPC will give $2000 and let Jack find the best place to get them printed. We could possibly sell in Friends of the Smokies bookstore.

Jack wrote an article "Invasive plant management in heavily invaded areas"– how to get started?" Please get comments to him by the end of December 2002. How do we want to present: brochure, 2 pager, website, and/or Wildland Weeds?
Jack has written a proposal for Starting a Tennessee Invasive Plant Management Plan. This plan would include all invasive species, not just plants. Our role would be to help the plant aspect.
Forest Service Control guides is still in draft form, being prepared by Jim Miller. . Are treatments to stringent? Are we okay with backing this? Maybe put on website or put a link on the website. Jack was going to check on.
Dyes and food coloring in herbicides – recent concerns that it may be toxic, Jack and Carrie to follow up on.
TN erosion and sedimentation control handbook. Send a letter after January concerning their recommendations on invasive grasses. Also give them some native alternatives. Possibly refer to TVA list and get Nancy’s help.
Ad in Envirolink handbook. Pass on the add we felt like that was a place for SE-EPPC. We would like to be a placed on the speakers bureau page –as a group. Anyone in the area the group requesting a talk could go and talk using a canned presentation that will need to be developed by January 2003. Possibly put presentations on website and password protect them. Regan’s contact will be listed and she will coordinate if a group does call. Jack will begin working on a canned talk.
