Richard joined the board in August 1999.  He did the field work for the survey of exotic plants in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 1987-88.  Richard leads an exotic plant walk at the annual Great Smoky Mountains Wildflower Pilgrimage.

Richard has organized and led a walk for an Association of Southeastern Biologists Annual Meeting field trip on invasive exotic species.  He has developed a college-credit course on landscaping using native plants at Chattanooga State.

Richard is very interested in digital photography and in developing educational resources relating to exotic plants, native plants and wildflowers, and the ecology of the Southern Appalachians.  Among other things, he is serving as the webmaster for the TN-EPPC website.
