Tennessee Exotic Plant Management Manual |
A collaborative effort of the Tennessee Exotic Pest Plant Council and Great Smoky Mountains National Park - April 1997
About This Publication
The Tennessee Exotic Plant Management Manual was written to provide natural resource managers and others concerned about exotics a tool to help control and manage 20 of Tennessee's worst exotic pest plant problems. The Tennessee Exotic Pest Plant Council (TN-EPPC), established in 1994, identified as one of its first goals the production of such a management manual for our region. A National Park Service grant enabled the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP) to complete an extensive three-year control and management effort of the worst exotic pest plant problems within the 600,000 acre national park. Many of the recommendations in the manual derive from this work and are field tested. Thus, the manual is an educational product of that grant and reflects a partnership between TN-EPPC and GSMNP.
Comprised of numerous organizations, agencies, businesses, and individuals, TN-EPPC is a forum for the exchange of ideas. By fostering interaction and communication statewide and regionally on all aspects of exotic pest plant issues, and by forming partnerships with other organizations such as GSMNP, TN-EPPC has completed many projects during its first four years. These include this exotic pest plant management manual, native plant brochures for each region of Tennessee, numerous workshops, and an annual symposium. As a 501c3 non-profit educational/scientific organization, TN-EPPC will utilize and distribute the manual at workshops, conferences, and meetings.
Additions to this manual and all other TN-EPPC projects depends on the continued interaction and participation of people concerned with this issue. Your membership helps provide support for the development of quality projects that raise awareness of this serious issue.
The complete manual is also available online in PDF format (requires the free program Acrobat Reader to view).
Note: images in the PDF file are not viewable onscreen but will print out, although quality is somewhat less than in the traditionally printed version. If you need a copy of this higher quality version, please contact a board member.
